I’m not the most talented man in the word, but I have always been blessed by my ability to make friends. While I don’t usually have a large inner circle, my workplace has certainly been the exception to that. I am truly blessed. I have a wonderful group of men and women that I work with and have worked with for many years.
At work, I have not yet officially announced my plans to become a part of the order. That didn’t stop someone from finding out what my plans were and talking to another coworker about it. It wasn’t long before one conversation turned into two. Soon, it morphed into an unofficial confirmation that I was leaving.
It didn’t take long before Shawna, one of my dear, sweet friends, to plan a party in my honor.
It was certainly a little premature, as I have not yet officially been accepted; but, as she didn’t know my potential time table at that point, she didn’t want to miss the chance to say goodbye. So, she planned the event as early as possible to ensure that they had the opportunity to give me a proper send off.
It was a little surreal to attend a going away party, considering I hadn’t event announced that I was leaving; but it was sweet none-the-less.
The party, itself, was very nice. There was a nice, small, intimate group of friends there. We all enjoyed ourselves. We drank. We danced. We told our stories, for the millionth time; and we sang our hearts at karaoke. When the night was over, we all left with a smile, having enjoyed each other’s company, fellowship, and affection for one another.
I am truly blessed.
